On the Westside of Friesland, the small city of Harlingen is situated. Back in the time it was mainly inhabited existed out of fishermen and ship builders. The embankment "Stienen Man" provided protection for the civilisation that was located behind the dike, that had to take care for the protection of the population. A small nation of hard working people that were not afraid of the seaside, a little bit self-opinionated, very direct, but always honest and sincere.

One of those people is called Jaap van Andel, a former shipbuilder, and a real "Ouwe Seun" ( nickname for a real Harlinger). This fancier already had racing pigeons since decades and is still enjoying the sport a lot.. A son of Jaap is Harry van Andel, 39 years old, originally a sport instructor, but has been working already for 15 years as financial advisor. He approached his father about 3 years ago with the question whether he would like to race in partnership with his son. Not just for fun, but Harry wanted more, he also wanted to gain excellent performances. Father mainly raced for fun, but Harry also wanted to win prizes. It didn't take long to think about it, the "Combination Van Andel" was born.
To perform good in the region "Friesland"96" isn't that easy because of the location and so to participate in the championships. The wind, mostly present, mainly coming from the west, but once it comes from the eastside, you have to be ready. This is the philosophy of this combination and is 100 % based on reality. Main determining factors for performances are good, healthy pigeons and a fanatic dedicated pigeon-fancier. You can influence these factors and not the wind, and that's well also! |
